DESTINY by Debbie Johnson
SONG NOTES:
WHEN YOU'RE NEAR ME: (pop ballad, r&b influenced. Background vocals ala 4-tops) You could easily listen to this song on any radio station and sing along. Fun and well-produced.
YOU CALLED HIM SON: (catchy latin-influenced ballad) A fun song to write and listen to. A catchy song about life that leads to a hopeful and energetic chorus. Great harmonies.
MASTER ENGRAVER: (pop ballad, stong melody, great arrangement and production) I related God as a Master Engraver, shaping the darkness, light and my life into something beautiful.
LEAD THE WAY*: (ballad with beautiful orchestration and melodic line, full background vocals) The chorus on this song is very singable and uplifting. The verse reflects on how fast life can pass us by.
FAITHFULLY*: (starts off with 5-pt. acapella, simple instrumentals) One of my favorite songs on the album. A simple song that focuses on just living our life faithfully day by day.
ROAD LESS TRAVELED*: (folk influences, story line, catchy melody) A song I can easily sing about my relationship with my father that was beautifully penned by Ken Ward. It makes me cry every time I sing it.
TIME AND AGAIN: (vocal duet, pop love song) I wrote this song for my husband as we re-affirmed our wedding vows. It reminisces about the times we were able to talk the days away and how things change over time.
CITY LIGHTS: (driving rhythms and vocals merging a rock/jazz style) I started writing this song on the San Diego shoreling while singing and playing for a conference. As I walked outside my room, I could see all the lights in the city. I realized through those "City Lights", there were many people living in a dark world with no hope.
JESUS PUTS IT ALL TOGETHER: (gospel "get down" song with a catchy chorus) This is a fun song that talks about everyday living and how it can just drag you down. The chorus will definately pick you up and keep you dancing around the room!
HOLY LOVE*: (thoughtful ballad with full orchestration and beautiful melody) Imagine you're on a beach watching the sunrise and beholding the beauty of our Father's Creation. Now you're ready to listen to this song.
PRAISE TO THE LORD*: (full choral arrangement arranged around Vivaldi's A Minor Concerto) What a fun song to arrange! We overdubbed 6 singers 3 times to make this sound like a full choir and orchestra. An awesome climax to the album.
